3 pm. Sunday, January 16, 2022
This will be an interactive event where students will be introduced to jazz improvisation — which starts by learning the blues. Through a series of building blocks students will, as a group, compose a blues tune which previously selected students will then be asked to play and try out improvisation techniques discussed.
Advanced intermediate students or higher who have good listening skills and good facility with chord progressions and scales in at least a few flat keys are welcome to submit a short video playing a piece that requires both hands to play independently (e.g. a Bach fugue). Three students will be chosen to appear in person (with masks and proper distancing) for the class and will be rotating throughout the demonstration.
