ADULT MUSIC SALON (Avocational)
Co-Chairs: Nora Chiang-Wrobel & Barbara Roe
This program provides a warm and informal setting in which adult students may become acquainted and gain confidence by performing for their peers and teachers. All adult music students of MTAC-WLA members are welcome to attend and/or perform. Come for the camaraderie, musical conversation and performances. Performances may include solo instrumental, vocal, all ensemble groups (i.e. piano 4-hand, piano and instrumental, string quartet) and improvisation. All student levels are accepted. Music should be well-prepared but need not be memorized.


BACH FESTIVAL (BRANCH)
Co-Chairs: Dr. Sumy Takesue & Rosa Wong
Southern California Junior Bach Festival (www.scjbf.org) provides students an opportunity to perform works from the Baroque period in an adjudicated formal setting.  A maximum of 35 percent of students who perform works by J.S. Bach (with the exception of Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook pieces) may be selected to represent MTAC-WLA at the Southern California Junior Bach Region IV Festival.
Our 2017 Branch Festival will take place Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Roth Hall, Crossroads School in Santa Monica; recital times from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 pm. Information at www.scjbf.org, the official website for Southern California Bach Festival.
Bach Region IV Festival (piano) will take place Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Pierre’s Fine Pianos.

CHOPIN PIANO COMPETITION

The Kathryn Gawartin Chopin Piano Competition provides gifted and talented piano students from all Branches of MTAC an opportunity to compete for cash prize awards.
The 2017 Kathryn Gawartin Chopin Piano Competition will take place March 26, 2017 at Steinway Piano Gallery in Beverly Hills. The Winner’s Recital will take place at 2:00 pm April 2, 2017 also at Steinway Piano Gallery, Beverly Hills.

CON BRIO NEWSLETTER

Our branch newsletter, Con Brio, is published bi-monthly, September through June, and transmitted to Branch members via e-mail.  Information must be received by the Editor, preferably by e-mail, on or before the 15th of the month prior to publication. MTAC West Los Angeles Branch CONCERTO COMPETITION

The MTAC-West Los Angeles Branch Concerto Competition provides students an opportunity to perform a movement of a concerto with the Culver City Chamber Orchestra at the Young Artists Concert on Sunday May 1, 2016. Now open to students of all MTAC teachers. For the following solo instruments: Violin, Violoncello, Flute and Piano. MTAC-WLA CONCERTO REPERTOIRE_2016 Click for repertoire list. CONTEMPORARY FESTIVAL now called: MUSIC-OF-THE-20th CENTURY FESTIVAL (BRANCH)
Chair: Susanna Safarian-Tarontsi
The Music of the 20th Century Festival provides students an opportunity to perform solo and ensemble music from the 20th and 21st centuries in a formal recital setting. Please click on the tab on the menu bar, above, for information for the current year. All performing students are presented with a participation award.  The festival also features a lecture, demonstration, and/or recital by a guest artist or ensemble.


MUSIC STUDENTS’ SERVICE LEAGUE (MSSL)
Chairs: Nancy Arnold, Sharon Collins & Jane Jonaitis
MSSL is a group of self-governing MTAC student volunteers dedicated to serving their community through music.  MTAC-WLA MSSL projects include student performances at senior citizen homes, benefit recitals, mentoring younger students, and volunteering at Branch functions and events.  MTAC-WLA MSSL often works jointly with the Westside Music Foundation to raise funds for music education programs in the local community for at-risk children and youths.

CLASSICAL & OR ROMANTC FESTIVAL (BRANCH)

These Festivals provide students an opportunity to perform solo and ensemble music from specific historical periods in a formal recital setting. All performing students will be presented with a participation award. For 2017 it will be a Romantic & Impressionist Festival, scheduled for Sunday afternoon, January 22, 2017 at Steinway Piano Gallery, Beverly Hills. Afternoon recital times TBA.


NAOMI REISFELD ETUDE FESTIVAL
Co-Chairs: Nurit Caspi & Victoria Roizen
This newly founded Etude Festival provides intermediate and advanced students an opportunity to perform brilliant, artistic works designed as Etudes by various composers, in a formal recital setting. All performing students will receive a valuable award! Festival 2017 will take place on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Pierre’s Fine Pianos.

RED & GOLD SEAL SOLO RECITALS  (BRANCH)
Chair: Nannette Kliger
The Solo Recitals provide students an opportunity to perform memorized programs for an audience.  Red Seal Certificates are presented to students who prepare a 15-minute program, and Gold Seal Certificates are presented to students who prepare a 30-minute program.  The audience must include two MTAC-WLA Branch members in addition to the presenting teacher.


SOLO COMPETITION (BRANCH)

Alice Frazier Kitchen Memorial Scholarship Competition provides gifted and talented students (all instruments and voice) of MTAC-WLA Active Teacher members an opportunity to compete for scholarship awards.  Winners are presented in recital at the MTAC-WLA June General Meeting. This Solo Competition for 2016 took place May 22, 2016 at Steinway Piano Gallery. 8801 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills 90211. The competition is on hiatus for 2017. STUDENT BRANCH RECITAL (BRANCH)
Chair: Yawen Wu
Branch recitals give students an opportunity to perform solo and ensemble music in a formal recital setting. Usually planned close to Certificate of Merit evaluation weekend, the Branch Recital has not been scheduled for 2017.


TEACHERS ON STAGE PREVIEW RECITAL (BRANCH)
Chair: Lisa Pietruszka
This recital gives Branch members an opportunity to perform in a formal recital setting, sometimes at the April General Meeting.


TEACHERS’ ROUND TABLES
Chair: Barbara Roe
A forum for Branch members led by a speaker, to discuss pedagogical standards, and practices.
