Competition Rules & Information
The
Alice Frazier Kitchen Scholarship Competition is open only to students of
MTAC-WLA members and is geared toward the most advanced
and gifted
students. ANY INSTRUMENT/VOICE.
Teachers may enter one
student (age as of June 1, 2010) in each of four
categories:
Category
1 age 09 & under
Entry Fee (NON-REFUNDABLE): $30
Category 2 age 12 &
under Entry Fee
(NON-REFUNDABLE): $35
Category 3 age 15 &
under Entry Fee
(NON-REFUNDABLE): $40
Category 4 age 18 & under Entry Fee
(NON-REFUNDABLE):
$45 (grade 12 or lower)
APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 24, 2010 (Online)
ENTRY FEE & PROOF-OF-AGE DOCUMENT DEADLINE: April 24, 2010 (Postmark)

(Students who have entered in a previous year do not need to submit a
proof-of-age document.)
Students who submit their online application late or who
submit their entry fee and proof-of-age document late will be assessed a $25
late fee through May 1, 2010. NO APPLICATION MATERIALS WILL BE ACCEPTED
AFTER MAY 1, 2010. Students who fail to meet this late deadline will be
automatically withdrawn from the competition on May 2, 2010.
Students will not be assigned an audition time
until their entry fee and proof-of-age document are received.
Each
entrant must present a recital program of three works (single movements of
longer works are acceptable) from three different historical periods:
Medieval/Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, Contemporary.
The
Scholarship Competition Committee will review each proposed program.
If it is determined that the repertoire proposed does not meet
competition standards, the teacher will be notified immediately.
If there is any question concerning the appropriateness of a student's
proposed program, the teacher
should
contact the chair before submitting an application.
All music must be memorized, and students must bring one original score
for each of their pieces (no unpermitted photocopies) to the competition.
Students who do not have their pieces memorized, or who do not bring one
original score for each of their pieces, or who bring an unpermitted photocopy
or photocopies to the competition will be immediately disqualified and not
permitted to play for the judges. In the case of out-of-print works or
works downloaded from an online source, photocopies will be permitted with the
appropriate license from the publishing company, but they must be cleared with
the Scholarship Competition Chair prior to the audition date; the use of any
photocopied material without prior consent from the Scholarship Competition
Chair is not allowed, and the student will be immediately disqualified and not
permitted to play for the judges.
Previous 1st-place winners of a category may not enter that
category or any lower category. However,
they may enter a higher category.
The
decisions of the judges are final. Judges
are not obligated to select a winner in each category.
Any teacher
who at any time contacts a judge regarding this competition and/or its results
will have ALL
of his/her students disqualified from this competition and will be ineligible
for all
MTAC-WLA competitions for one year.
Any parent who at any time contacts a judge regarding this competition and/or
its results will have his/her child disqualified from this competition and will
be ineligible for all MTAC-WLA competitions for one year.
The receipt of a submitted MTAC-WLA Online Application
Form & Competition Agreement for the Alice Frazier Kitchen Memorial Scholarship
Competition shall be deemed an acceptance and agreement of the applicant to the
Competition Rules & Information stated on this page.
In the event of any dispute, claim, question, or disagreement arising from
or relating to the terms and conditions of this Competition or the
Competition Agreement, or the breach thereof, MTAC-WLA shall use its best
effort to settle the dispute, claim, question, or disagreement. To this
effect, they shall consult and negotiate with each other in good faith, and
recognizing their mutual interests, attempt to reach a just and equitable
solution satisfactory to both parties. If they do not reach such solution
within a period of sixty (60) days, then upon notice by either party to the
other, all disputes, claims, questions, or differences shall be finally
settled by arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association
in accordance with the provisions of its Commercial Arbitration Rules.
The
Scholarship Competition Committee is pleased to announce that this year, the
following Alice Frazier Kitchen Memorial Scholarships may be awarded as follows:

Place: $100
Category 3 1st
Place: $300 2nd
Place: $150
Category
4 1st Place:
$500 2nd
Place: $250
The
four 1st-place winners and the four 2nd-place winners will
be presented in recital at the MTAC-WLA June General Meeting on Tuesday, June 1,
2010 at 7:30 p.m., Crossroads School--Roth Hall (Santa Monica). Winners must be present and perform in the winners recital to
receive their cash scholarship award; winners who do not perform at the winners
concert will automatically forfeit their cash scholarship award, but they may
keep their award title.
